offside

offside: is a rule in various team sports including soccer that prohibits an attacking player from being involved in active play if they are ahead of the ball and the last defender. The purpose of the rule is to prevent goal_hanging and give defenders a fair chance to defend their goal. To be offside, a player must be in an offside position when the ball is played or touched by a teammate. The offside position is judged based on the position of the player's body, not the feet. If a player is offside and involved in active play, the referee will stop the game and award an indirect free-kick 

to the defending team
